Volunteering for Haiti Relief
Thank you for your interest in helping with Nos Petit Frères et Soeurs’ (NPFS) relief efforts in Haiti. NPFS is part of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos International (NPH), a Christian mission that strives to provide a permanent family and home for orphaned, abandoned and other at‐risk children who live in conditions of extreme poverty. NPHI is supported by a large network of international fundraising offices, including Friends of the Orphans in the United States. We do all the screening of U.S. applicants for their International Volunteer program, as well as the Haiti Earthquake Relief.
Please understand that the situation is changing constantly, and our needs are still very fluid.
We are asking you to be as patient as possible with us as we develop our structure and assess the urgent needs. If you want to serve in Haiti immediately, we encourage you to apply with other organizations as well. It is clear that Haiti will need our help for a long time.
Medical and relief professionals will be based out of NPFS’ St. Damien’s Chateaublond Pediatric Hospital in Tabarre, on the outskirts of Port-Au-Prince. We have a core group of NPFS staff on the ground to provide leadership and management of the facilities and the teams. For now, coordination and transportation is being routed through the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) home in the Dominican Republic. If you volunteer with us, you will most likely fly into Santo Domingo, although that may change too.
Once you have been screened and interviewed, we will put you in touch with the staff in the Dominican Republic to make your arrangements.
Please review our minimum requirements for joining our disaster relief efforts in Haiti before completing the application:
- Experience in disaster settings.
- Trained and certified medication professional or have pertinent non‐medical skills.
- Ability to fund your travel expenses.
- Must commit to serving at least two weeks.
- Priority is given to those who have worked with our organization in the past, and/or those with French or Creole skills.
