NPH Nicaragua opened in 1994 and is home to more than 300 children. Children age 7 and under live at Casa Asis in San Jorge. Casa Santiago, the main home, is on Ometepe Island, a one-hour ferry ride from the mainland. An earthquake and volcanic activity on Ometepe Island caused a temporary evacuation of NPH’s homes in August 2005. Due to safety issues, property on the mainland was acquired. The new home in located in Santa Teresa, Carazo, 45 minutes southwest of Managua. Construction is expected to take approximately five years to complete.

This is a mission trip for St. Thomas More in St. Paul, MN.
